    New Pond

I am in the planning stages of building my backyard pond. It will be approximately 13-15,000 gallons. I will be utilizing a bog filtration system in conjuction with a mechanical/biological filtration. I am at a dilema as to which type of filtration to use with the mechanical setup. Pump fed versus gravity fed? Any suggestions?

I would suggest reading through the pond design/planning info on the following two sites.

    http://www.atlantakoiclub.org/calend...ilteration.pdf

A Guide to Modern Koi Pond Construction.

Please note that using a bog is adding organic matter to a koi pond system. The intent is to gently capture and remove organic pollutants...not break them down inside the water column. Please note that a corner stone of koi pond design is gravity feeding bottom drains to a mechanical stage. If the water first hits a pump impeller the organic materials will be broken into smaller pieces and be harder to collect and remove.
Koi keeping is not a belief system; it is applied science with a touch of artistry.

I am always curious how people in the pond planning stage come to the conclusion of using a bog filter.
Care to share why you chose a bog filter?
