the pond is now up and running we have 14 different koi in there. 2 that we had quaranteended for several months and then we bought 13 raning in size from 5"-16"=) all are well but one of my Koi decided to braze the 4" drainage pipe and ended up in the settling chamber floating belly up.. One of my Platinum's koi's did the same but luckily survived... Lot's of beautiful fish though. Showa's, kojaku(sp?), ginrin showa, Asagi, some crazy dark blue one and others I can't remember right now.. Dad post some new pics of the pond!!!!

Okie Dokie Dan, as you requested...

Everything is up and running now and all is running well. Water quality is excellent after 5 weeks, so.....maybe I am going to be ok? The pond ended up being 10,000 gallons including the filtration. It is a gunite pond with polyurea sealing. The shallowest part of the pond is 4 feet with the deepest at the 4" bottom drain being 6 and a half feet. Four tprs that flow through 2 inch pipe. I can regulate every tpr and waterfall separately through the cool plumbing system that my son Dan installed. I have a 1500 gallon settling chamber, no niche skimmer that each have a 1/3hp Artesian pump on them(two pumps) that feeds into a Sacramento Koi Advantage 15 bead filter. (shudders Tim, you are only using a bead filter for bio?) From there onto an Emperor Aquatics 120 watt uv. The actual flow (as I have a flow meter on the system) varies from 3,800 to 3,900 gallons per hour. The water is now cleaning up since I hooked the uv up after a monstrous algae bloom. My new fishies are very happy campers. Well....all but one that got sucked into the bottom drain and didn't survive the journey into the settling tank! I only have 14 koi in the pond and am hoping for some good growth in the next few years. I had no idea that just sitting by the pond could be so darned relaxing. Here are a few pics....obviously, the yard is now in severe need of having the landscaping completed. The contractor is coming next week. Speaking of that, I am NOT a do it your selfer and all of the work done was done by others. With my arthritic knees doing physical labor is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. I hope that you enjoy the pics. Unk

The best part though is the new sump pump we hooked up yesterday to drain the vortex.. We can drain the whole thing is a minute or two now opposed to the several hours it took with the old pump=)
