The satellites are a mix of private and government ownership and image resolution varies a LOT depending on location. Most government installations are low resolution for security purposes and secure areas are completely whited out. (Try looking at a SAC base or weapons depot ) Large portions of Ram stein AFB in Germany are whited out as is part of Landstuhl. My son just returned from Adana, Turkey and I was surprised at first to see how close I could zoom in. Why??? No weaponry is allowed to be stored, staged, or transported through the Depot there. The CIA, NSA, etc... satellite imagery is not available through google earth... Those images are scary up close and personal
