Filter Or Pressurized Filter?

Im In The Process Of Currently Building An 8 X 8 X 4 Ft Pond. I Was Wondering If I Should Use A Reg Filter Or A Pressurized Filter. Plz Help Me With The Pros And Cons Of Each, And Plz Give Me Brand Names Of The Filter I Should Get.
Thanks
Jorge

There are many ways to carve the filtration turkey.

For my money unless site logistics force you to do so...I would not use a any pressurized filters. Let gravity do much of the work. Open filter contains give a great opportunity for gas exchange and replacement of DO used by the bacteria.

Water exiting a gravity feed filter system should have higher DO that when it entered. But with a pressurized tank...no way to add oxygen inside...so DO has to be less when exiting.

Some folks will say...you can make up for it elsewhere. I don't want a fitler I have to compensate for elsewhere. I am running two Nexus each with 410 Answers. Each have an Airtech 120L boiling the K1. Each of the two BDs have an Airtech 80L. Works for our fish......

BTW....2,000 gallons is very small for a koi pond. See you can at least do 8x16x6.

Having done both of pressurized and gravity feed filtering, I recommend pressurized filter right after the settling tank for easy weekly maintenance work.

my old setup which require lots of maintenance work. pre-filter and biofilters are all gravity fed

pond water => settling tank => pre-filter with j-mats => pump => biofilter1 =>biofilter2 => water return to pond

new setup which reduced 80% of weekly maintenance work.

pond water => settling tank => pump => Ultima II => biofilter => return to pond

lots more time enjoying the fish

Steve
