to many koi or not

hi , i am new to this site and also im in my first year with koi, i made my own 4200 gallon pond 4 1/2 feet deep at the deep end and bought eight koi in the spring now i have around 50 koi from the eight that i bought, is that a good thing or do i need to get cull them out . i dont know for sure who is making all these little ones. but anyway it seems my pond is doing very well , i have atracted the local dragon flys , frogs and my plants are doing very wel. thanks for your time , this will be my first winter with pond also , new england weather. any help would be good for my koi. thanks

For show quality koi, stocking rate should be no greater than one fish per 500 gallons. For pet fish, one koi per 250 gallons is usually fine, assuming you have adequate filtration. So in your case, you should really have no more than 16 koi. Start culling!
