It's a DIY vortex from a 500 gal ag tank. I make them all the time.

Are you set on the Savio skimmers? Every time I see a new pond build I try to figure out why people use those monsters? Not only are they expensive, but the design is really not that great. A standard pool skimmer like the Renegade would be better IMHO, and can be converted to 4" gravity fed very easily.

I like Savios because of the UV feature. that's the main reason. I may investigate the smaller savio though, if you can still put a UV in them. They are also easy to gravity feed with the addition of a uniseal in the bottom.

I'm just the opposite here Chris. I have the waterway skimmer on one pond and the lg Savio on the other. The waterway works great but so does the Savio. it's well built, the filter matt is easy to pull and rinse out, and I love the UV feature.
