Shower Filter and/or Moving Bed Filter

In addition to a DIY settlement chamber I am considering a DIY shower filter and/or a DIY moving bed filter. Can a settlement chamber and a shower filter (along with a skimmer) provide adequate filtration?

It could. Note I did not say it would

The shower size and flow rate, like for any other type of filter, would need to match the pond size and load (fish and their food).

Suuggestion...use BDs feeding static/fluid/static chanbers. Use the skimmer(s) to feed the shower. Be sure to be able to bypass the showers in cold weather.

If the shower filter is fed only by the skimmer then another filter (moving bed, etc.) would be needed for the other line after the settlement chamber, correct?

The BD circuits should each feed some type of mechanical seperation stage followed by one or more biological conversions stages. Personally I would not consider a passive vortex as worth having. Now if that vortex has a VMS, static K1....to GREATLY increase the capture of solids....great. There is a huge different!!!!

Now for the bio conversion stages.....hard to beat a good fluid bed followed by a static bed of K1 or maybe some Japanese matting.

This is what I do. BDs to Fluid bed, to Bead, to TPRs. Skimmer to 4 tray shower, 8500 gph, to waterfall.
