Questions concerning pond

I'm in the process of buying a 3,000 gallon koi pond. I was wondering if it would be okay to house two five-inch koi in it? As a general fish hobbyist I've always gone by the one inch per gallon rule, but I've heard that many koi owners do not go by this rule at all. I know that the more space I can get, the better... But for now it looks like a 3,000 is all we can fit.

Would this be a decent size for two? Would mechanical filtration be recommended over plant filtration?

3.000g is fine for two fish that will start out at 5 inches.

You will need mechanical and bio filtration. There is no plant filtration in a koi pond.

You can get more gallons by going deeper.
