Bottom drain size ?

I am exspanding my current pond from 1500 US gallons to 4000 and insatlling a bottom Drain in the new section its 39 inches deep .

My Question is I plan on running a 2400 GPH pump in the 50gal filter I built and wondering what size PVC to run for the bottom drain 3" or 4" to get the best results from the drain.

also can anyone tell me a safe silicone to usein the filter to seal the seperate chambers.

I would recommend 4" and make it closer to 4000+ gal....
Make it 39" in shallow end with straight down walls (little or no slope)

For sealing around BDs, skimmers, TPRs...etc. I use E6100. That is the no sag version of E6000 that you can get in small tubes in craft stores. I purchased a case of 12 caulk gun cartridges of it for around $75. Good stuff.

I would also use a 4" drain, but would plan on flowing more through there than 2000 gph. At 2400 gph flow, a 3" drain won't handle it, but it is a little slow for 4". You will see a lot of sediment in the line and possibly leaf clogs right inside the dome cover area from a slow flow. (believe me....I have had first-hand experience with both of these issues). Try to increase the flow closer to 3000 gallons for better results. Or at lease come up with a way that you can flush the line well when you clean the filters, just to keep stuff from building up in there.
