    Smile QT tank

I recently started my plans on to what i can re-use as a QT tank, being that im a student, i was looking for the cheapest, yet functional method of making a QT tank. So i stumbled upon a plastic logistics crate. one that looks alot like this one, http://img.alibaba.com/photo/2085309...tics_crate.jpg but the one i have is just a one piece version. It is 4' by 4' by 2'deep. its comes out to like 240 gallons, but what i was thinking about was cutting the bottom out and dig in 2 feet more, bringin the total gallonage to close to 500, or shoul i just keep it at 240???? What do you guys think? apart from a liner, what else may i use to "waterproof" this crate.

What about a stock tank? Then run about 35 cents a gallon to buy.

much has to do with the quantity and size of the fish!!!

the tank can work for smaller fish.

If you will have sizeable fish you might want to build a 8x8x4 tank and use sheets of plastic with a blue tarp as the sealant. Just do a neat job of folding the corners. I had such a tank on our patio for 18 months while I built our pond after moving.

Here's a picture of my stock tanks. They are 1100 gallons and cost less than $300 each.

Steve, where did you find those tanks? The cost isn't much more than a stock tank and 4 times the volume of water.

I got them at a local Ag/Farm store. They are cattle water troughs. Here's a picture of the label. Give them a call and see if there is anyone close to you selling them.

I use the DIY sand/gravel filters that I make for all my small tanks or ponds. You can make them from a 55 gallon barrel.
If your not handy a small bead filter or the Nexus Eazy Pod works well.
