    Papa Bear,

I was drinking a martini at the time and most of it ended up on the floor, a little on the laptop screen, true alcohol abuse. Please add the disclaimer right away.

Damn. Alcohol abuse to an extreme
Are we going to need to start a thread on "Martini Stain Remediation"
Important facts to know before firing up the "12 step stain removal program"
    Was it a "dirty martini"?
If so, what was the ratio of Olive juice to Alcohol?
    Was it Gin or Vodka?
    With or without Vermouth?
Was the Olive and/or Pearl Onion recovered?
    If so, was it tasty?

Here are the final pictures I have. It was 19 inches when it leaped to its death. It ended up having an issue with the head that some call parrot nose or parrot beak, I guess.

In the initial picture, there was a top "lip" to the koi, but eventually, as it grew, the deformity made that area curl under, causing a bad appearance to the head, which was also crooked from the get-go. I held onto it for too long, although, my wife and daughter had taken to it becuase it was named (which is why you shouldn't name bad fish).

I felt the pattern potential was superb, and it really would have been, but that's all it had going for it. The rest of the quality just wasn't there. This was my first Japanese breeder purchase.

Yep think we need a new thread on this one.
By the way that is a really ugly fish.

Bombay Sapphire served up, three olives, mist the vermouth over the top.

    Ethan,
Do you ever recall seeing pictures of breeders at culling time holding the fry cupped in both hands and staring straight at the fish "nose to nose"? Do you now understand how this one got culled and sold as a 6"-7" Tosai? The next time you go Koi shopping "live" do you think you might try that oft overlooked angle on for size?

    MTS,

    That WAS serious Alcohol Abuse!
I'm not even a Martini lover and I still feel your pain
    Bombay Sapphire... So sad indeed...

yes, but I have kindof stopped buying tosai altogether. I'll let my wife and daughter pick one out here and there for fun, but I have pretty much moved on to tosai, and with the last three purchases, have required MULTIPLE angled shots to make my judgement.

    Hmmm
Somewhere recently I've seen the "eye and cheek area" on the second pic at the beginning of this thread in another thread???????

    ethan,
Seems like this koi "trained your eye" to look right at that area to make sure you don't get another one like this....
