    Nozomi Food

I feed a mix of food on the theory that no one pellet food may contain all of the trace elements needed for an optimal diet.

I like the Hikari and Dainichi brands. Just recently, I added some Nozomi spirulina into the mix (allegedly used by Sakai of Hiroshima) and cannot believe how much more waste that generates.

I have read and compared the labels (see Dick, we DO listen!) and cannot tell what the differences might be--all of the ingredients look to be in the same proportions.

Could it be that spirulina causes this across food types?

Does anyone have any foods (quality ones) that they just don't like?

I haven't used this koi food before and I try to stay way from feeding foods with spirulina. Well anyways, for the feed maker to say Sakai of Hiroshima uses this food is kinda far fetched, but I could be wrong. My main concern is for any food is the spirulina or color enhancing and protein content. Right now the temps is not high enough here in the Bay Area to be feeding over 40% protein. But anyways, to each is his own with koi food and there are so many factors not just the feed to bring up the overall quality of your fish.

Right now I stick with wheatgrem and sweet potato paste, until weather gets hotter.

I agree Aquitori--these fish are in a heated pond with temp at 77 degrees. They have been inside for the winter and are looking a little pale--so this is an experiment.

Without heat--the pond would be at about 57 degrees right now. In JUNE!!

Cool, just be wary that once you start feeding at that temp you should keep that temp consistant. If the Nozomi feed has alot of color cut the feed with wheatgrem, like a ratio of 2:1(2 parts Nozomi and 1 part wheatgrem) adjust to your liking..

Thanks, I will do that. Do you dislike spirulina for specific reasons?

If the genetics on the fish are good then spirulina doesn't need to be used. I only use a little bit of color food a month or 2 before a show.
