No, not blood related, a step-child is related by marriage. In my business I frequently deal with people who state the literal truth for the purpose of creating a misimpression. I find them the least reliable to deal with. When you catch a liar in a falsehood, you can get the liar cornered. The insidious misimpression is always the unfortunate fault of the audience.
