  • Naples Koi Show, Nov 17-19 2006

The details are coming together for the 1st Naples Koi Show held by the ZNA Southern Koi Association. This show started out to be a very small show mainly for the enjoyment of our club members. John Sprinkle has done most of the planning and has put together what will be a fun weekend. He even arranged for a $69 hotel rate which is unheard of in Naples that time of year. We quickly sold out of show tanks when the show was officially announced to our club members so we have added more tanks. There is currently only 6 tanks unclaimed, so if you would like to show, get your tank reservation in now! There should be a lot of tough competition so bring your best. We are honored to have Bob and Joan Finnegan as our judges.

If you are going to be in the South Florida area the weekend before Thanksgiving (Nov 17-19), plan to stop by the Naples Botanical Garden. The Saturday night banquet will be a fun evening. Instead of the normal long awards ceremony, we have talked Brett Rowley into giving one of his entertaining and educational presentations. The Naples Botanical Garden will have a big plant sale the same weekend, so those plant lovers will find plenty to enjoy as well. For more information go to:

What Henry forgot to mention is the $1 GC competition. No, we're not offering a $1 award, but I am sure you have all heard of JR's challenge to the domestic breeders in the U.S. Well, this is your chance to talk to the most likely the two top contenders for this award in the U.S. The Naples show will not only have Brett Rowley as our keynote speaker, but Mat McCann will also be present and I am sure we can get the two of them to talk about their progress in the area of a GC from one their stock, at a major show. We almost had a the top three in the U.S. attending the show, but unfortunately Brady had misunderstood the show dates and had to cancel out do to a his business having a previous commitment to another show.

It is not often that we can get these guys together at the same show and especially not in Florida, so if you are in the area or considering a vacation around that time, here is your chance to have some fun and talk to these guys about their breeding program in person.

I might also add that I am going to ask our speakers (the agenda of speaker s is not completed yet) to address the new import regulations and how they see it effecting their futures, the future of the Koi business in the U.S. and the impact this might have on the hobby (price increases, Koi availablity, etc.)

Final preps are being made and I think this is going to be a nice, layback and enjoy show where there is less work on the staff and more time to converse with old friends and actually take some time to enjoy all the Koi entries. If you are planning on coming to the show and going to the banquet, I would urge you to get your banquet registration in ASAP, as we have a very limited number of seats for this show. Being able to talk to Brett and Mat about their farms is going to be a real pleasure and it is always informative to hear what hear what Vicki has to say about Koi health and KHV. Oh yes, this is the first show where we will be trying out a brand new style, 8ft, hard tank. All show tanks at this show will be hard tanks and most of the vendors tanks as well.

We're looking for a few good men, can you fill the bill in March? Seriously Tim, if you can make it, we'll be glad to put you to work.

Counting down the days and just got word that Jack and Jessica Chang are coming to the show. Gonna be a great time. Henry C. even has an official Naples Koi Show Koi car for the show. You'll have to ask him to post a pic.
