    Dear Members and Friends of ZNA Southern California Chapter Koi Club,

    Our 31st Annual Open Koi Show will be held on March 19-20, 2005, at the Gardena Civic Center Complex (1700 West 162nd Street, Gardena, California 90247). This year’s show will be held English Style and will be open to the public. Enclosed are show packets and/or flyers containing information about this event. You can help us publicize our show by spreading the word among your koi kichi friends, displaying our show information at club meetings, and posting show flyers at koi related businesses. If you would like to volunteer to help with the koi show please contact club president, Don Kobashigawa, at (818) 207-3238 or [email protected] .We could use all the help we can get!!!

    Besides two renowned International ZNA Koi Judges from Japan we are honored to have judge, Mr. Mike Harvey (ZNA Local Certified Judge) from South Africa who will also give a presentation about “Koi Keeping in South Africa” at the Awards Banquet on Saturday Evening, March 19th. Our prestigious panel of USA Judges include, Mr. Ron Goforth (USA ZNA District Chairman-Texas), Mr.James Reilly (New Jersey), Dr. Galen Hansen (California), Mr. Bob Brudd (Illinois), Mr. David Young (Arizona), and Mr. Bob Johnson (Texas). Shadow Judges include Dr Alan Stein and Mr. Junichi Kayano (ZNA Southern California Chapter).

    Several show activities have been scheduled throughout the weekend. The Official ZNA Judging Seminar will take place Friday Afternoon from 2pm-5pm at the show site (reservations and fee required). On Friday Evening, meet the Judges and enjoy the koi camaraderie at the Judges Cocktail Reception at the Holiday Inn Torrance Gateway Hotel from 6pm to 8pm. Learn about pond building and koi husbandry at our Saturday 1-4pm Lecture Series (show site). Join us for the Awards Banquet on Saturday Evening, beginning at 6pm with Mr. Mike Harvey’s presentation. Sunday Morning, participate in a Guided Commentary of the winning koi by ZNA Show Judges. They will describe the different types of koi and the attributes that make a champion fish! Also, on Sunday at 11 am, join us for the Great Koi Auction where you may be able to purchase show quality koi at discounted prices.

    Our show will also host several Japanese cultural activities. On Saturday, there will be entertainment by Taiko Drummers and an ensemble of Japanese Singers. During both days the public may participate and learn from experts about Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), Origami (Japanese paper folding), Bonsai tree trimming, Orchid care, and Sumi-e (Japanese water color painting). Come participate and join in on the fun!

    This show promises to be one of the premiere koi events of the year. It will be a memorable experience whether you plan to enter koi in the competition, participate as a vendor, or simply attend the show as an observer. Thank you for your continued support of our club and koi shows. We look forward to seeing you in Gardena in March, 2005!
