Japan Shaken by Five Quakes in One Day

    June 20, 2005 11:25 a.m. EST

Christina Ficara - All Headline News Staff Reporter

TOKYO, Japan (AHN) - Five earthquakes struck Japan on Monday, injuring at least one person and swaying buildings across the country's main island.

The moderately strong quakes registered a magnitude of between 4.1 and 5.6.

Local media reports a 34-year-old woman slipped and hurt her leg during one of two quakes that struck in the afternoon, damaging a dozen houses and public buildings in Kashiwazaki City.

Those two quakes struck in Niigata prefecture, where Japan's worst earthquake in a decade killed 40 people and injured 2,700 last year. Officials issued aftershock warnings for the next few days.

Quakes also struck in the early morning near Tokyo's Narita Airport and in the central prefecture of Gifu, near Mino.

it is a bit alarming for one area to endure so much! But they always come back and come back stronger! ( both the people and the earthquakes! )
