  • Reports of Greenhouse Pond maliciously drained in Mushigame. 1,000+ koi dead

According to the following report, it seems that Matsuda Yorijo's greenhouse in Mushigame, Yamakoshi was the victim of deliberate sabotage.

The drain pipe was pulled out causing the ponds to completely drain and killing some 1,000 koi 2-7 years old from 25-50cm (reported) as a result.

Brian: It would seem this was the result of some personal vendetta rather than a prank that got out of control. My first thought was that it must have been some discharged employee. In any event, it is wholly contrary to my sense of how grievances are acted upon in Japan. Are you aware of old stories (or rumors) of similar sorts of things occurring in Yamakoshi over the years?

        Hi Mike,

Definitely not a prank. I am aware of some rivalries and/or bad blood, but Japanese society frowns on open prolonged hostility so its usually held back inside and not displayed or acted on. Not only in Yamakoshi, but in other parts of the country there have most certainly been bad blood and vendettas. There have also been rumors of sabotage, sometimes on a large scale, but the culprit has never been caught nor openly accused. Either way, pretty sad that the koi get caught in the crossfire.
