    Koi-keepers are known for their dedication to their living jewels. They are always looking for improvements in their ponds and filtering systems. Cost reduction and creativity are big issues while looking at the possibilities. The Flemish forum www.koivrienden.be is a platform on which a lot of ideas are posted. You could even say that they are specialists in building airlift systems. Using an air pump for water transportation really reduces the energy bill. That’s the reason why I wrote this blog.

    Is airlift only used in Belgium and The Netherlands or is it a worldwide method?

        What is the purpose or rational for having two air escapes indicated by the red arrows?

          This gives the airbubbles room to escape so the water flows back into the pond without them. This way there's less disturbance on the water surface.

              I'm building one in the United States right now. I'll post back on what I accomplish. I'm going to read the airlift document right now. Any quick pointers?

                    I think there is a difference in the air injection manifolds.

                    The European way (from the internet) seems to be to be the "Yamabuki" style.



                    This is a simplistic diagram;


                    The American way seems to be to use a air stone(s) or a simple air barb connections like this;




                    I tried using a snap-cap air diffuser and a PVC cap with holes drilled in it and found acceptable performance, but little difference.





                    There is a conflicting information on bubble size for air lifts. Small bubbles vs. coarse bubbles?
