  • H-1 ceramic media from China

Roughly 150 rods per 20kg box. Each rod is ~1.5" in diameter and 6.25" long. The walls are ~1/2" thick. If you do the math the box had ~1.4 cubic feet of media. As one would expect, the material is very porous and seems tough to the touch and squeeze. This will be one of my two shower media experiments this spring.

Just from the looks of the media from the photos you've posted, it seems that the manufacturing has gotten much better over years past. I'd be very interested to know how this performs, so please keep me informed as your experiment progresses. Does it seem rigid enough to work in a shower without disintegrating?

The H-1 media is used by Kevin Pham at Genki Nishikigoi for his shop in showers and I think it resells it to customers as well. So far so good.

Still using H-1 in my shower trays. No problems with the media falling apart or not doing nitrification and aeration.

Still using the H1 in the shower trays. Happy camper.
