    Unusaul Behaviour

    Hi

I have an unusal problem. I have a least one koi who is jumping, only at night, but every night for the past 3 days. They do not jump during the day. At least they dont jump during the day on the weekend.

My water is fine, I have tested it both at night and daytime.
We have not made any water changes or had any rain.
We have no predators - our dog sees to that.
We have no lights that come on or off.
we have no ground vibration from passing traffic
I cannot see or think of any other reason that they may be spooked.

It is now 925pm, I have to turn on a light to see the pond and all the koi are swimming around happily and awake.

    Any ideas?

    Perhaps they need some therapy.

I've noticed extra friskiness in Fall and Spring with some jumping, usually around dawn or dusk. Sometimes there will be a fish or two that flash a couple of times. I'll be starting to think of flukes when it stops and behavior goes back to normal, or they spawn. I seem to recall a post on another board where it was observed that some jumping occurred at night when the moon was bright.

    Change in Season

    Thanks

Yes we are undergoing a change in season. But if that is the case - why. The koi live in a 5000L inground pond. This means that temperature variation between day and night are gradual and therefore any chemistry variations would be gradual also.

As we are entring Fall/Autumn it is not likely to be a spawning issue.

    There is no full moon

coupla questions before we breeze over the water issue:

what is your PH at dusk and dawn? what is your o2 level at night vs day?
